Veterans groups are blasting a proposal to charge service members more than $2,000 for benefits under the G.I. Bill. The plan the House Veterans Affairs Committee will take up next week would deduct $100 a month from the pay of armed services members who sign up to receive education benefits after they leave the military. The deductions would go on for two years.
Veterans groups, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America call the plan a tax. The House Veterans Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on the proposal next Wednesday.
