Whale Hits Fishing Boat Off New Jersey Coast Causing It To Capsize

A 20-foot fishing boat was flipped over after a giant whale struck the boat off the coast of New Jersey, sending two men overboard. Luckily, there were two other boats nearby and they rushed to the aid of the men, who were unharmed.

The New Jersey State Police shared a photo of the capsized boat on Facebook, along with a tongue in cheek description of the incident. "Whale vs. Boat Final Score: Whale 1- Boat 0" the post started before referencing a quote made by George Costanza in the classic Seinfeld episode "The Marine Biologist."

And suddenly the great beast was before them! He was ten stories high if he was a foot!

A video that was taken by a passenger on one of the boats that came to rescue of the fishermen showed them pulling one of the men out of the water. After he was rescued he described the moment the whale collided with his boat

“We watched the whale, we watched the whale and the next thing I know all of a sudden the boat just goes whee and it’s gone.”

The boat then maneuvered close enough to the smaller capsized fishing vessel so they could pull the second man out of the water.

The police joked that "charges against the whale are pending its apprehension."
