Bomb Threat Closes Sandy Hook Elementary School On Shooting Anniversary

The horizon of Newtown and the ecology of water are two major design themes for the newly-finished Sandy Hook School,

Students at Sandy Hook Elementary School were evacuated and sent home after the school received a bomb threat on the sixth anniversary of the horrific shooting that left 20 children and six teachers dead.

The bomb threat was called in to the school around 9 a.m. ET and officials deemed that it was not credible, but said they were taking it seriously and will launch a full investigation.

Newtown Police Lieutenant Aaron Bahamonde said that the school would remain closed for the day due to the heightened anxiety in the community surrounding the anniversary of the shooting.

Police said they do not believe the bomb threat was related to a series of threats that were emailed to businesses, schools and government offices across the country on Wednesday (December 13).

Superintendent Dr. Lorrie Rodrigue wrote a letter to parents saying that "all students are safe" and that "there is no need to be concerned."

"We have decided to dismiss all Sandy Hook Elementary School students home by bus at approximately 11 a.m. from the senior center. All students are safe and we are dismissing so police can continue to investigate.  At this time, there is no need to be concerned at any of our buildings."
