Michigan Democratic Sen. Elissa Slotkin urged her own party to stop being "weak and woke" and to "f**king retake the flag" while preparing her "war plan" to combat President Donald Trump and the Republican agenda.

A speech Slotkin, 48, was expected to give in Lansing to Democratic volunteers was obtained by Politico on Thursday (April 24) and includes "Slotkin’s plan lays out why she thinks Democrats suffered sweeping setbacks last year, including focus groups of home-state voters who she said described her party as 'weak and woke,'" according to correspondent Adam Wren.

Wren added that Slotkin also wanted the Democrats to adopt the "Alpha energy" displayed by Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Detroit Lions, as well as an "airing out of potential 2028 presidential candidates in a broadly contested primary," a tactic that has been used by Trump since his successful 2016 campaign. The senator is also expected to focus on "language and tone" in her speech to voters, which will include advising the party to stop using the term "oligarchy," as has been used by Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during their 'Fighting Oligarchy' tour.

Slotkin who had previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives, was elected as a Michigan senator in 2024 and gave the Democratic response to Trump's congressional address last month.
